Summary

An old woman named Babia was seen searching for something in the dirt outside her hut. A crowd gathered and asked what she had lost. She replied that her needle was missing and she was looking for it. The people began helping her search for the needle. As evening approached, one person remarked that a needle is such a small object and asked if she could even tell exactly where she had dropped it. Babia responded that she had dropped it inside her hut. The people were astonished and asked why she was searching for it outside if she had lost it inside. Babia explained that she was searching outside because there was light there, whereas inside the hut it was completely dark. Someone then suggested that she could light a lamp inside the hut to see and search for the needle there. Hearing this, Babia began to laugh. She told the people that they were very clever with small things but failed to apply their intelligence to their own lives. She said she had often seen them searching outside for what they had lost, when what they had lost was actually within themselves. She asked why they searched outside for something they had never lost outside. The people stood there silently, and Babia went back into her hut.
