Summary
During their exile, the Pandavas once went hunting. Bhima, feeling thirsty, searched for water and reached a distant lake. There he saw a rest house with three rooms. In one room, a strange buffalo was tied, eating fodder from both sides. In another, a swan was being pecked and injured by crows. In the third, clay pots were clashing against each other for no reason and breaking. Bhima returned without drinking water and narrated this strange incident to Yudhishthira. Yudhishthira explained that Bhima had witnessed the age of Kali. In Kaliyuga, officials will take both salary and bribes, symbolized by the buffalo eating from both sides. The swan represents a virtuous person who will be tormented by wicked people. The pots breaking by hitting each other signify brothers of the same father fighting and destroying each other. Bhima was stunned by this description of Kaliyuga's horrors.
