जीवनशैली की विसंगतियां दूर हों

Vol. 61 · No. 06June - 2013pp. 33-34Hindi

Summary

The text discusses the concept of lifestyle, or "jivanashaili," focusing on human life as distinct from animals due to human thought, memory, and imagination. It defines life as a flow between birth and death, with a deeper philosophical view considering the union of body, senses, mind, spirit, emotion, consciousness, and awareness. While material necessities like food, clothing, and shelter are required, they are not life's ultimate goal. Different perspectives on life's purpose include material enjoyment, social service, scientific or philosophical truth-seeking, and spirituality. A person's lifestyle is influenced by civilization, culture, tradition, and environment. A pleasure-dominated lifestyle creates problems such as violence, cruelty, exploitation, aggression, fraud, theft, sensuality, hoarding, addiction, and waste. A good lifestyle is characterized by restraint, along with values like compassion, friendship, tolerance, cooperation, ethical conduct, altruism, self-discipline, freedom from addiction, frugality, duty, awareness of order, and humility. Training in value-based lifestyle alongside education can be effective. The author proposes a nine-point program for a healthy and progressive lifestyle: right perspective, non-absolutism, non-violence, ascetic culture, limitation of desires, right livelihood, right values, dietary purity and freedom from addiction, and fraternal affection. These principles are universal, transcending caste, sect, region, nation, language, and dress. Adopting this lifestyle could resolve many problems. While a householder cannot completely renounce wealth, enjoyment, accumulation, and comfort, the concept of "anuvrat" (small vows) provides guidance, and "prekshadhyan" (perception meditation) helps integrate these values naturally. The text asserts that active training in the triad of anuvrat, prekshadhyan, and lifestyle science can fulfill the need for innovation in lifestyle, building a foundation for life values from childhood.

Conclusion

This document concludes that a fundamental shift in human lifestyle is urgently needed to resolve the deep contradictions of modern existence. It argues that a life dominated by indulgence and materialism breeds violence, exploitation, and addiction, whereas a lifestyle rooted in restraint and values like compassion, cooperation, and self-discipline offers a clear path forward. The proposed nine-point framework, including principles like non-violence, limited desires, and right livelihood, is presented as a universally applicable solution. The ultimate implication is that by actively integrating this value-based lifestyle through practices like Anuvrat and Preksha Dhyan, a new social and personal revolution is possible, leading to the resolution of widespread problems and the establishment of a healthier, more harmonious way of living.
