Summary

The 143rd Maryada Mahotsav of the Terapanth religious order was held from January 23 to 25, 2007, at the Acharya Tulsi Samadhi Sthal complex in Gangashahar. In his inaugural address, Acharya Shri Mahapragyaji emphasized that a society remains vibrant only as long as its members remain active, urging the congregation and the monastic community to continue channeling their energy for the organization's development. He designated the first day, Vasant Panchami, as a day of evaluation, noting the contributions of both monastics and lay followers. The festival began with the ceremonial installation of the Maryada Patra, a document handwritten by Acharya Bhikshu, which Acharya Mahapragyaji described as the lifeblood of the entire order. The first day also featured the conferral of honorific titles on 208 lay men and women who had been recognized over the past year for their service, along with the release of a history of the Jain Shwetambar Terapanthi Mahasabha. Appointments were announced for service centers, with five centers for sadhvis and three for munis receiving new assignments. The second day, January 24, marked the anniversary of Acharya Mahapragyaji's ascension to the leadership, celebrated with a program of devotional songs and expressions of goodwill from various groups, including the youth, nuns, and monks. In his address, Acharya Mahapragyaji reflected on the order's foundation, crediting its strength to the purity of conduct and adherence to discipline by its monastics. He praised the dedication of his disciples, including Yuva Acharya Mahashramanji and Sadhvi Pramukha Kanakprabhaji. The main event on January 25 drew a large crowd to the Maryada Samavsaran. The program included discourses on discipline, the release of new publications, and the presentation of awards to monastics for their service, including a special recognition for Muni Dineshkumarji for his composition

Conclusion

The 143rd Marayada Mahotsav reinforced the Terapanth Sangh's commitment to discipline, service, and collective responsibility. Key outcomes included the formal appointment of monks and nuns to service centers, emphasizing institutional continuity and community welfare. The event also highlighted the importance of moral conduct and selflessness, with leaders urging members to prioritize organizational growth over personal ambition. The celebration of Acharya Mahapragya's ascension day further solidified the Sangh's hierarchical yet participatory structure. By honoring individuals with titles and releasing historical texts, the festival strengthened communal bonds and documented the Sangh's legacy. Ultimately, the Mahotsav served as a reaffirmation of shared values, ensuring the Sangh's vitality through active engagement, ethical leadership, and a forward-looking vision rooted in tradition.
