Summary

This PDF is a special issue dedicated to the life and works of Acharya Pujyapada, also known as Devanandi, Jinendrabuddhi, and Yashonandi. He was a profound scholar of Sanskrit, logic, Ayurveda, and various branches of literature. The text describes him as a master of grammar, ranking among great grammarians like Indra, Chandra, Panini, and Shakatayana. His most significant work is the *Tatparyavritti* (also called *Sarvarthasiddhi*), a commentary on the *Tattvartha Sutra*. This commentary is noted for its detailed analysis of each word in the sutra, using a question-answer format and adhering to grammatical rules, and is said to contain vast knowledge of Jain doctrine. Another important composition is the *Samadhitantra* (or *Samadhishataka*), written for those seeking liberation. A third work, *Ishtopadesha*, is also filled with spiritual essence. While he is credited with composing ten Sanskrit *bhaktis* (devotional hymns), only seven are currently available, including those on Siddha, Shruta, and Charitra. He also authored the *Jainendra* grammar, on which he wrote his own commentary (*Nyasa*), though it is now lost. Beyond literature, Acharya Pujyapada was proficient in mantra, tantra, alchemy, and yoga. His medical texts contain numerous effective, alcohol-free formulations using herbs and minerals. He also defined the symbols of various Jain Tirthankaras according to tradition. The issue includes an article explaining the *Saptatattva* (seven fundamentals) from both the definitive and practical viewpoints, edited and translated by Shri Bhanwar Lal Poliyaka. The editors express gratitude to contributors, Dr. Kamalchand Sogani, Shri Bhanwar Lal Poliyaka, and the press.

Conclusion

This special issue highlights the enduring relevance of Ācārya Pūjyapāda’s contributions, demonstrating that his literary and philosophical works remain vital for spiritual and scholarly pursuits. The detailed analysis of his commentaries, particularly the *Sarvārthasiddhi*, reveals a comprehensive system of knowledge that integrates grammar, logic, and doctrine, offering a complete path for aspirants. The inclusion of diverse scholarly essays and the annotated publication of the *Saptatattva* ensure that these teachings are accessible for contemporary study. Ultimately, this document reaffirms that Pūjyapāda’s legacy is not merely historical but a living source of guidance, capable of purifying the soul and leading sincere seekers toward liberation, thereby fulfilling the highest purpose of sacred literature.
