मंगल के प्रकार

Vol. 14-15 · No. 0November - 1993 to April - 1994pp. 39Hindi

Summary

The text discusses the classification of mangal (auspiciousness) from multiple perspectives. From a general standpoint, mangal is of one type. Based on the distinction between primary and secondary, it is of two types. According to the differences in right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct, mangal is of three types. Based on the categories of dharma, siddha, sadhu, and arhat, it is of four types. Through the distinctions of knowledge, perception, and the three guptis (restraints), mangal is of five types. Alternatively, in the context of mangal, six topics or sections are to be explained: mangal itself, the performer of mangal, that which is to be made auspicious, the means of mangal, the types of mangal, and the fruit of mangal. The meaning of mangal has been previously stated. The performer of mangal is the acharya who has mastered the fourteen vidyasthanas. The worthy individual (bhavya jana) is the one for whom mangal is to be performed. The means of mangal are the instruments for achieving the three jewels (ratnatraya). The types of mangal have been previously described. The fruit of mangal is worldly prosperity and the bliss of liberation.

Conclusion

This document establishes that the concept of mangal (auspiciousness) is not monolithic but is systematically categorized into one, two, three, four, or five types depending on the analytical perspective. The implications are significant for Jain doctrinal study, as it provides a structured framework for understanding spiritual goals and practices. The outcomes show that mangal is defined through multiple dimensions: its agent (the accomplished acharya), its object (the worthy aspirant), its means (the three jewels of right faith, knowledge, and conduct), its classifications, and its ultimate fruits—worldly prosperity and final liberation. This detailed taxonomy allows practitioners to precisely identify the components of a spiritually beneficial life, moving from general auspiciousness to specific, actionable categories that guide both ritual and ethical conduct toward the highest soteriological ends.
