Summary

The fourth issue of the "Jain Vidya" magazine has been published, following three previous issues. The first issue focused on the great poet Svayambhu, while the second and third issues were dedicated to the great poet Pushpadanta. All three issues presented in-depth research and study on the personalities and works of these Apabhramsha language poets from various perspectives, functioning as special editions. The warm reception from the scholarly community and the public has boosted the editors' enthusiasm. This fourth issue continues the series with a focus on the poet Dhanapala Dhakkada, author of the "Mavisayattakaha." Jain studies hold a significant and unique place in Indian scholarship. Without its study and contemplation, knowledge of Indian philosophy, history, religion, culture, and folk life remains incomplete. The Jain Vidya Institute in Shri Mahavirji is committed to fulfilling this need, and the publication of this magazine is a step in that direction. The editors acknowledge the limitations of their resources but express confidence in the dedication and capability of their collaborators. The study of any discipline requires the study of its literature, which in turn necessitates knowledge of the language in which it is written. Language is not static but constantly evolving, similar to the human body, though the change is often imperceptible. For linguists, studying the various forms and changes of a language is essential. The history of the discovery of the Apabhramsha language is not more than nine decades old, and its evaluation from various angles began three to four decades later. As works in this language came to light, scholarly attention grew. While several institutions and scholars are now working in this field, there is a lack of necessary coordination, leading to some repetition of topics. The institute is striving to foster better coordination among these entities. The editors express gratitude to the contributing scholars, the editorial team including Dr. Gopichand Patni and Prof. Praveenchandra Jain, and the Kapur Press for their artistic printing.

Conclusion

The publication of this fourth special issue on Dhanapala Dhakkada, following earlier issues on Svayambhu and Pushpadanta, demonstrates the journal's sustained commitment to advancing Apabhramsha studies. The enthusiastic reception of previous issues has reinforced the editorial team's resolve to continue this scholarly series despite resource limitations. This work underscores that Jain studies remain indispensable for a complete understanding of Indian philosophy, history, religion, and culture. The journal's ongoing efforts aim to address the lack of coordination among researchers and institutions in this field, where duplication of topics has been a concern. By fostering collaboration and maintaining rigorous scholarship, "Jain Vidya" is steadily progressing toward its goal of becoming a vital platform for Jain academic inquiry, ensuring that the study of Apabhramsha language and literature receives the attention it deserves within broader Indian intellectual traditions.
